Chasing Pavements Devised Piece 29/01/16

This lesson we looked at what we had so far for our piece we wanted to see what else we needed to add for our piece. We thought that we needed to add more dialogue to our piece and we wanted to have a whole new scene about something so Kat came up with the idea of having a game show we thought of different ideas what the game show could be based around so we said about doing deal or no deal and naming it keep or no keep so it is based around abortion. We came up with the idea of having the banker still but will are changing it to terminator, Lorna is going to be the host for the game show and Kat and Rob are people on the show. Kat and Lorna are the same person but they are the different sides to her mind so they will think different.

We wanted the game show scene to feel different and uncomfortable. I said to Lorna about are scene we did together called Ten Tiny Fingers Nine Tiny Toes. The character I played was a horrible person who loved to see people in pain so this is how I was going to play the role as the terminator.

Chasing Pavements Devised Piece 26/01/16

Today we ran the whole piece with the movement section into our script scene. We started running the movement and script scene a few times we remembered what we did and then we tried it together to see how it looked with them both put together. We then created something new and I said about doing a sound scape after the scene we all came up with the idea of doing hospital sounds or an abortion clinic we then came up with noises that we think we would hear in those places like a clock ticking and a heart beat and making baby crying noises but we could not make a good baby noise. Then I said about having a simple move in it so we did a box step to make it look difficult and look different because we were swapping.

This is the video of our movement and the start off to one of the scenes we are going to have more talking in it because Miss Cordell said to remember to put as much talking in as you can and don't make it to much movement base. Next lesson I think we are going to come up with a new scene that has more talking in it. I think what we have created so far looks amazing we just need to keep added more so their is more to the story.

Chasing Pavements Devised Piece 22/01/16

Today we completed our whole script of and put it in the order that we wanted it to go in we decided to have our scene and Lorna and Rob's scene overlap each other so we would start off and then stop and then Lorna and Rob say what they are going to say and then we carry on so people understand that now we are the friends of the people we are talking to and not the same person anymore. Kats character does not want to have to baby and tells me that she is going to get rid of it I am going to act shocked at this point. Rob is the other way round and wants to keep the baby and thinks Kat is not taking it serious and tells Lorna the whole story about her not listening to him and saying to her that he loves Kat so much and really wants to keep the baby. We decided to do a exercise that would help us all develop our characters more so we all switched over different characters and showed each other how we think we should play it so we could gain different ideas and techiques of how we can portray our role. I think swapping roles was a great idea because it made us think in different roles of a character and changing into a character quickly so it did help us all out a lot.

Chasing Pavements Devised Piece 21/01/16

Todays lesson we decided to start doing some dialogue because we had done a lot of movement so we came up with the idea of Lorna and Kat being the same person and Rob and I being the same person throughout the piece but the best friend relationship was between Kat and I and Lorna and Rob we decided to start by Kat telling me what happened at the party so we thought of ideas that we could say how it started at the party and what went down so Kat and I tried out what we were going to say while Lorna wrote down ideas of some of the things that we said so we could remember.

Kat told me that she was going to have a baby with Rob but she was going to have an abortion but we tried to make it funny as first saying that did you use my bed but then went into a serious mode and told me about the abortion and I looked shocked that Kat was going to get rid of the baby. We are going to write a full script up next lesson so we know what we are all going to say. We showed Kats character as been not that shocked about the baby but she does not want to keep it and she is not making a big deal out of it but Robs character was worried about it and wanted to keep the baby and saying that Kat is not making a big deal out of it. I think this is great for the first scene we are just going to develop the idea more next lesson and try to write a full script up and go though the whole thing with the movement involved. I had an idea after we had done this scene about doing a soundscape showing the feelings of the people to let the audience know how they feel or have one person in the middle and all the people round the outside saying their thoughts and feelings.

Chasing Pavements Devised Piece 15/01/16

Todays lesson we decided to carry on we are movement piece because we wanted to add more to it. So Lorna and I carried on with dance section while Kat and Rob decided to talk about what they were going to do for the part where they tell each other how they feel and the pregnancy test. This is the video of what we came up with today:

As you can see on the video we have added more to the dance section and Kat and Rob have they part on the floor which is showing the reaction of Rob when he finds out that he just leaves in shock. As you can see at the end of the video I was confused because I have only learned that part of the dance that day. At the end of the lesson we sat down and had a deep discussion about abortion and Kat told me about the history of how they use to do abortion and Lorna said to us that she looked up pictures of it and told us how horrible it was. We told each other our views on it and I am against abortion but in some cases it is acceptable if the woman was raped or it could put the baby's live in danger or the mother.

Chasing Pavements Devised Piece 14/01/16

Today we carried on with the "Burying your brother in the pavement" scene that was going into natural things and then into non naturalistic we came up with the idea of children and then into war but as adults we decided to include lots of techniques these were slow motion, freeze frames, abstract and when changing freeze frames into the next part we did a click noise to show the change on it.

We decided to start with children playing a game of tag and then going into that we were shooting each other in the war as a freeze frame then we went into us eating a picnic and Lorna had a paper cut and was showing us and then went into the adult freeze frame as a soldier who is hurt and we were helping them. Then we went into children playing a game of eye spy and looking at the plane then we went out of the game and did a abstract of the plane showing what the plane looked like and I was the driver. Then for the last part we played tag as children and then went into a slow motion piece like a bomb was going off and we were going down onto the floor. We used clicking to show the change of the scene but we also used a bell to show that the bomb was going off and we were all taking cover.

Burying your brother in the Pavement Research 12/01/15

Today we did some research for the first part of the lesson I decided to research this because I know people in our old GCSEs class did this so I think it was a great idea for Chasing Pavements because its about a brother who wants their dead brother to be buried in the pavement where they died. When I researched this on google I got an overview of what it was about.

'Tom’s brother is dead. He was killed by a broken bottle to the neck This has upset a lot of people but it hasn’t upset Tom. Or, rather, it has upset him, but in ways he can’t explain. Tom really didn’t like Luke, but without him… This is a play about grief, and looking at someone that little bit more closely.'

This is the notes on the staging that I found in the play which tells you more about how you can show this play and how many people you can have in the cast.

I found a description of what the play is about:
A play about grief and looking at someone that little bit more closely. Tom's brother Luke is dead. This has upset a lot of people but it hasn't upset Tom. Or, rather, it has upset him, but in ways he can't explain and other people can't understand. You see, Tom and Luke were never friends. In fact, Tom didn't really like Luke at all. So it's an odd decision - to try and bury Luke in the pavement of the Tunstall Estate where he was killed. But to Tom, it sort of makes sense, in a stupid-weird kind of way. As he sleeps out on the pavement, he comes across planning officials, tramps, undertakers, police officers, sisters, mothers, estate agents, ghosts, pavement elephants, sky dragons and a strange lad called Tight who wants to sell him a Travelcard. Written specifically for young people, Burying Your Brother in the Pavement was part of the 2008 National Theatre Connections Festival and was premiered by youth theatres across the UK.

For the rest of the lesson we started doing a new piece Kat came up with an idea doing something that was realistic and then went to non naturalistic then I said we could do something as kids and then go to adults so I said we could start playing a game of it and then freeze and go into adults like we where having a war shooting guns at each other and then we went back to children having a picnic drinking and eating and then when to adults again and this time Lorna was on the floor and we where checking she was alive like she got shot in the war. We did not have any more time to finish it but I know next lesson we are going to carry on with it because I think it was a great idea.

Chasing Pavements Devised Piece 08/01/16

Today we were told to pick a completely different idea from some of the ideas that we came up with on the first lesson because we need to explore ideas to see if they work or not and decide of what main idea we want to do for the final devised piece. So we decided on looking at domestic violence but just that on its own to see what it would like as just its on story and not with the other piece that we thought we could put it in.

We decided to start of we a sound scape so we could build some tension to the audience and then Lorna and I would go into a physical theatre piece which would link with Robert and Kat telling the facts about what domestic violence does and how it can effect people because Kat does psychology she has studied this so she had research all about which she used in the piece. Kat came up with the idea that the sound scape would be a clock and we would make the tick tock and it was faster and faster how the victim would get killed and I said about someone in the middle with everyone saying their feeling or things in their head and they will end up breaking down. With the movenment piece I said about the bit where I grab Lorna's hair should be in slow motion to show more of a effect from it and some of the floor work could do the same thing. Lorna and I came up with all the movement for the physical theatre piece which was showing a couple being in a domestic violence fight and going along with what Kat and Rob where saying to show the actions we ended up making the last bit up because we forgot the last piece of the movement. Here is the video of our piece that we created today:

The only comments I would give myself is to look at my voice to show that I was in pain a bit because I was screaming "make it stop" like something you could say if you where having a fight with someone but I think it showed that in some way and I think we would look at the movement piece again to try and add more to it and include more techniques that could look effect in a violence scene.

Chasing Pavements Devised Piece 07/01/16

Today we continued with what we where doing last lesson with the same idea I said about doing a movement piece with music to start us off that we could include in our piece we decided to have the movement piece as the couple but we where in pairs and doing it together portraying that it was one pair and it was a movement showing you love between them and them ending up having a baby.

We thought that we would start this piece off with the party scene which we would have music and dance and Lorna and I said it would be a great idea having a slow motion piece while we where dancing to show that the alcohol is kicking in and that it is affecting us we also wanted to put lots of techniques in it like flashbacks, motifs and split screens. We also said about the idea of someone clicking to pause the scene and the person would talk maybe about what is going on who they feeling about what they where feeling at that point and then going back into the scene and clicking to start it back off again.

This is the video of the movement piece we came up with today we have not finished it yet but I think it is a great start we decided to show it split screen which is showing the same person doing the same actions:

We came up with the movement piece together but some of us came up with different parts like I came up with the movements that Robert and I would do and some of the floor work and Kat and Lorna came up the the girls parts. I think we should carry on with this movement piece because Lorna and I are dancers so we really enjoy doing movements pieces. We thought of the idea of Lorna and I carrying on with the movements piece while Robert and Kat will show that Kat is pregnant with a pregnancy test and then we show them getting mad at each other and Lorna and I could show this by another movement piece while Kat and Robert are arguing over it and they could freeze and come forward and tell everyone how they are feeling about this and saying things like they should have never done it.

Chasing Pavements Devised Piece 05/01/16

Today was the first day back and the start to the new devised unit we started the lesson of by reading though the assignment brief which told us what exactly we would be doing for this unit and the grades we could get and what we needed to do to achieve these grades.

Then we watched the Chasing Pavements video by Adele which gave us an idea what the song was about and made me think of some ideas we could use for are devised piece. Here is the video that we watched:

We then got told what groups we are going to be in my group is Kat, Lorna, Rob and me. As a group we did a mind map of ideas we thought we could use for are devised piece here are some of the ideas that we wrote down:

  • Technology/Trends in the world
  • Boy buried in pavement
  • Poverty/Suffering
  • Relationships/Love
  • Abortion/Miscarriage/Still born
  • Alcohol abuse
  • Rejection/Ageism
  • Domestic Violence
  • Chase/Hunt/Race
  • Time running out
  • Time Jumps
  • Refugees/Religion
  • Different paths
  • Options/Decisions
  • Run away
We looked at the ideas that we thought we could work on in todays lessons and we came up with are favourites ideas were alcohol abuse, relationships, abortion and domestic violence we then decided to put these all in one piece I said the idea starting of with a party which I could be the host and then we all came up with the idea of a couple who will have a relationship at the party and have a baby we came up with the idea that the girl would not want to have the baby and have a abortion and then they would be a domestic violence over the couple to keep the baby or have an abortion.
