The Flint Street Nativity Play 09/10/15

Todays lesson we went though the rest of act 1, someone had the idea that when a group started speaking then they would move to the middle which would draw attention to them. We weren't sure if this idea would work so we spent a lesson trying it out. We found that it was very hard to do as it meant props would have had to be moved and people forgot to move there, so this caused a few problems and made it look messy and crowded. We thought it would be best to come up with a new idea, this is when Ashley had the idea of 3 spotlights at the front which lit up different areas this not only drew attention to them but also meant that someone could be preparing the next part in a different area of the stage without being too obvious. After trying this we decided that is worked much better as it split up the stage making it all much neater and therefore this is most likely the idea we are going to use. I decided to make a few simple props such as cardboard sheets which are for "me words" in the scene where I ask Jenny Bennet to help me learn them. In future I need to pay closer attention to the stage directions because as I have seen from reading through the script, it has very specific stage directions which the writer intended in order to create the comedy aspect of the show, so by knowing the stage directions it will mean that I can better perform my role especially in certain parts when I have to "close my eyes" or "have trouble reading" because this will give me a much better idea of how to play this character, I also need to learn my lines so that I can focus on how I say it rather than remembering the line itself, I aim to know my lines up to the end of act 1 scene 5 by next week.
